    Abstract

Women, Business and the Law 2026 is the 11th in a series of annual studies measuring the laws and policies that affect women’s economic opportunity in 190 economies. The 2026 edition presents an updated Women, Business and the Law 2.0, a new framework that assesses three pillars capturing both de jure and de facto dimensions of gender equality: legal frameworks, supportive frameworks, and enforcement perceptions. Women, Business and the Law 2026 updates its index of 10 topics structured around a working woman's life cycle: Safety, Mobility, Work, Pay, Marriage, Parenthood, Childcare, Entrepreneurship, Assets, and Pension.

    Reproducibility

    Technology environment

Paper exhibits were reproduced on a computer with the following specifications:
    • OS: Windows 11 Enterprise
    • Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6226R CPU @ 2.90GHz
    • Memory available: 16.0 GB

    Technology requirements

    Runtime: 10 minutes

    Reproduction instructions

To reproduce the results, follow these steps:

    1. Open Master.do and update the directory in line 87.
The Master.do file is configured so that the local macros (Data_0 and Data_1) for the do-files listed in lines 40 and 41 are set to 0 by default. Since these do-files query live data from wbopendata, which are updated regularly, rerunning them may produce different outputs for some figures. See the README for details.
    2. Run the Stata code.
The code will execute using the included data and generate all outputs except for two figures. Some data are restricted and not included in this package; therefore, users will not be able to generate Figure B.2.3.1 and Figure B.3.4.1. The Master.do file has the corresponding local macros set to 0, allowing users to run the package and generate all other figures without the restricted data. Outputs generated during reproducibility verification are included in this package so users can review and compare them with the results reported.
