The results indicate an intensification of reshoring and nearshoring activities by US companies, especially following Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine. This shift has also increased jobs associated with greenfield investment announcements. Following the invasion of Ukraine, the estimated number of direct jobs in greenfield investment announcements were more than double in the US and its neighboring countries. The paper finds no evidence that US companies are adopting a friend-shoring strategy by investing more in military allies. The paper suggests that US supply chains are likely to become less global and more regional as these investments become operational.","geographic_units":[{"name":"United States","code":"USA"}],"keywords":[{"name":"Foreign direct investment"},{"name":"reshoring"},{"name":"friend-shoring"},{"name":"nearshoring"},{"name":"home-bias"}],"topics":[{"id":"F21","parent_id":"F2","uri":"\t https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"International Investment \u2022 Long-Term Capital Movements "},{"id":"F23","parent_id":"F2","uri":"\t https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Multinational Firms \u2022 International Business"}],"data_statement":"Some data is restricted and has not been included in the reproducibility package.","repository_uri":[{"name":"Reproducible Research Repository (World Bank)","uri":"https:\/\/reproducibility.worldbank.org"}],"technology_requirements":"Runtime: 5 minutes","technology_environment":"Paper exhibits were reproduced in a computer with the following specifications:\n\u2013 OS: Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2\n\u2013 Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E7- 4860 @ 2.27GHz 2.26 GHz\n\u2013 Memory available: 16 GB\n\u2013 Software version: Stata 18.0 MP","reproduction_instructions":"Users need to gain access to the dataset Bilateral FDI announcements; change the global path in line 9 of \"1_Prepare_data_WP.do\" and line 7 of \"2_Figure_WP.do\", \"3_Event_study_WP.do\", and \"4_Regressions_WP.do\"; and run the do-files following the order in their name prefixes to reproduce the results.","disclaimer":"The materials in the reproducibility packages are distributed as they were prepared by the staff of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development\/The World Bank.
