THE UPDATED VERSION IS AVAILABLE AT THIS LINK: https:\/\/reproducibility.worldbank.org\/catalog\/374]\nAs increasingly frequent extreme weather events disrupt more and more lives, institutions are turning to early-warning systems to accelerate aid delivery. We present evidence from a randomized controlled trial in Bangladesh and Nepal testing whether providing cash within days of a flood leads to greater benefits than delivering the same assistance months later or if it simply shifts the timing of benefits without improving overall welfare. Results suggest that timely cash assistance leads to overall gains in food security and psychosocial well-being. This evidence supports efforts to forecast crises and release disaster relief quickly.","geographic_units":[{"name":"Bangladesh","code":"BGD"},{"name":"Nepal","code":"NPL"}],"keywords":[{"name":"Forecasts"},{"name":"Cash Transfers"},{"name":"Climate Change"}],"topics":[{"id":"O13","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Agriculture \u2022 Natural Resources \u2022 Energy \u2022 Environment \u2022 Other Primary Products","parent_id":"O1"},{"id":" Q54","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Climate \u2022 Natural Disasters and Their Management \u2022 Global Warming","parent_id":"Q5"},{"id":" I15","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Health and Economic Development","parent_id":"I1"}],"output":[{"type":"Working Paper","description":"Policy Research Working Papers (PRWP)","title":"Timing Matters: Evidence On Forecast-Based Cash Transfers From Two Countries","license":"test"}],"language":[{"name":"English","code":"EN"}],"technology_requirements":"~30 mins","disclaimer":"The materials in the reproducibility packages are distributed as they were prepared by the staff of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development\/The World Bank.
