To this end, we develop the Care Simulation Model, a demographic model that estimates gaps in child- and eldercare needs by integrating life-cycle care needs with the availability of intergenerational family caregivers. The model quantifies unmet care needs and translates them into estimates of potential market size and employment creation in childcare and eldercare. By 2030, unmet need across 21 EAP countries corresponds to 19.9 million potential jobs in childcare and 34.1 million in eldercare. The framework provides a transparent, cross-country tool to inform care policy, workforce planning, and investment strategies.","geographic_units":[{"name":"Asia","code":"ASI"}],"keywords":[{"name":"Childcare"},{"name":"Eldercare"},{"name":"Demographics Transition"},{"name":"Family Caregivers"}],"topics":[{"id":"J11","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Demographic Trends, Macroeconomic Effects, and Forecasts","parent_id":"J1"},{"id":" J13","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Fertility \u2022 Family Planning \u2022 Child Care \u2022 Children \u2022 Youth","parent_id":"J1"},{"id":" J14","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Economics of the Elderly \u2022 Economics of Disability \u2022 Non-Labor Market Discrimination","parent_id":"J1"},{"id":" J16","uri":"https:\/\/www.aeaweb.org\/econlit\/jelCodes.php?view=jel","vocabulary":"Journal of Economic Literature (JEL)","name":"Economics of Gender \u2022 Non-labor Discrimination","parent_id":"J1"}],"output":[{"type":"Working Paper","description":"Policy Research Working Papers (PRWP)","title":"The Potential Market For Care In East Asia And Pacific"}],"language":[{"name":"English","code":"EN"}],"disclaimer":"The materials in the reproducibility packages are distributed as they were prepared by the staff of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development\/The World Bank.
