It then uses these data to provide new stylized facts about local public finance. First, it shows that about one-quarter of government purchases are from suppliers in the same municipality and discusses its possible implications for efficiency in public purchases. Second, it creates a measure of payment delay to suppliers: close to 15% of total payments are delayed by more than 30 days and payment timeliness is systematically correlated with local income.","language":[{"name":"English","code":"EN"}],"output":[{"type":"Working paper","description":"Policy Research Working Paper (PRWP) 10598","title":"MiDES: New Data and Facts from Local Procurement and Budget Execution in Brazil","authors":"Ricardo Dahis, Bernardo Ricca, Thiago Scot, Nathalia Sales, Lucas Nascimento","uri":"http:\/\/documents.worldbank.org\/curated\/en\/099456511072320917\/IDU0577a4ea10ff8504db6089400548fa91b30a3","doi":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1596\/1813-9450-10598"}],"data_statement":"All data is public and contained in the reproducibility package.","datasets":[{"name":"MiDES: dissagregated and harmonized dataset on public procurement and budget execution by Brazilian municipalities","access_type":"Data is public and included in the reproducibility package.","uri":"https:\/\/basedosdados.org\/dataset\/d3874769-bcbd-4ece-a38a-157ba1021514?table=14c5d05b-9830-4710-b7ac-7e0ca1bf9d8b"}],"software":[{"name":"Python","version":"3.10.9","library":[""]},{"name":"R","version":"4.3","library":[""]}],"scripts":[{"file_name":"RR_BRA_2023_19-v01","zip_package":"RR_BRA_2023_19-v01.zip","title":"Reproducibility package for MiDES: New Data and Facts from Local Procurement and Budget Execution in Brazil","date":"2023-10","software":"Python, R","dependencies":"- Python: pandas, numpy, os, glob, zipfile, datetime, tabulate, matplotlib, seaborn, geopandas, basedosdados, getpass\n- R: data.table, ggplot2, ggpubr, modelsummary, tinytex, DescTools, binsreg, basedosdados, ggtext, dplyr","notes":"Computational reproducibility verified by Development Impact (DIME) Analytics team, World Bank."}],"repository_uri":[{"name":"Reproducible Research Repository (World Bank)","uri":"https:\/\/reproducibility.worldbank.org"}],"technology_environment":"Paper exhibits were reproduced in two computers with the following specifications:\nComputer 1 (Python code):\n- OS: macOS Ventura\n- Processor: Apple M1\n- Memory available: 8 GB\n- Software: Python 3.11.4\nComputer 2 (Python + R code):\n- OS: Windows 11 Enterprise\n- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1145G7 CPU @ 2.60GHz\n- Memory available: 15.7 GB\n- Software: Python 3.11.4, R 4.3","technology_requirements":"10 minutes runtime","reproduction_instructions":"Follow instructions in the README to recreate the environments and reproduce the results.","disclaimer":"The materials in the reproducibility packages are distributed as they were prepared by the staff of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development\/The World Bank.
