    Abstract

    The Entrepreneurship Database is a unique global source of cross-country data on the entry and exit of formal private enterprises. First published in 2011, it compiles information from business registries worldwide and has been updated every two years since. The Prosperity Insight Note explains the trends in business entry and and the gender gaps in entrepreneurship around the world.

    Update the global in line 11 of the do-file "main" to your folder's location and run the do-file to reproduce the results.

    Entrepreneurship Database
    Note
    The Entrepreneurship Database is a global cross-country dataset on the entry and exit of formal private enterprises. The 8th Edition contains annual data on limited liability companies (LLCs) for 188 economies over the period 2006–2024. Compiled from national business registries, the data cover the flow and stock of LLCs: newly registered, closed, and total firms at year-end, and include gender-disaggregated information on business owners, directors, and sole proprietors.
