    Reproducibility

    Technology requirements

    Runtime: 5 minutes

    Reproduction instructions

The underlying raw data used in this project are restricted and subject to special approval processes. As a result, most users will not be able to access the raw inputs or fully reproduce the data construction from scratch. For transparency and methodological documentation, this reproducibility package therefore includes the full analysis and data-processing code, but does not include the restricted raw datasets.

Users who have been granted access to the underlying restricted data can reproduce the results by:

    • Placing the approved raw datasets in the folder structure described in this repository.
    • Opening the main script (master.do).
    • Updating the local paths if needed.
    • Running the script from start to finish.

Raw data refers to the original input datasets downloaded from the DMS following a multi-level review process to ensure accuracy for analysis, and cleaned by dropping variables irrelevant for the scoring process. The final WBL index and scores for the WBL 2026 Report are calculated using these raw datasets. DMS was designed to ensure data confidentiality: The system is accessible online only when connected to the World Bank’s network and requires a username and password to sign in. Access is only granted to the WBL team members. Parties interested in accessing these datasets must contact the Women, Business and the Law team to request access to the following email address: wbl@worldbank.org
    Access policy
Data access was granted directly to the study authors by the data owners. It was obtained with a custom data license that does not allow for redistribution and it is not included in the reproducibility package.
