    Abstract

We revisit a randomized experiment that demonstrated the cost-effectiveness of group-based, compared to individual, consulting services for firms in the Colombian auto parts industry using administrative data that now permits following firms for up to a decade. Firms in the group consulting intervention are more likely to survive, have higher employment, and have increased sales and profits by approximately 50%. This longer-term growth appears to in part come through increased exporting, as wellas persistent management improvements. Case studies offer insights into underlying mechanisms. The more expensive individual consulting has noisy long-term impacts that are much less cost-effective.
