Climate change—and efforts to fight it—will dramatically reshape global trade and investment flows. Developing countries, home to most of the world’s poor, face the twin challenge of mitigating and adapting to climate change while fulfilling their obligation to deliver a brighter future to their citizens in the form of more and better jobs, higher incomes, and improved health care and education. These two goals are compatible and can be mutually reinforcing. And trade can be part of the solution. With almost 30 percent of global GHG emissions arising from the production, associated deforestation and transport of exported and imported goods and services, decarbonizing trade while adapting to the changing climate is a global priority.
