CBAM-related products

Source: Produced by the authors with information from Chepeliev and Corong (2022) and Chepeliev et al. (2022). Exports of CBAM-affected products are from the World Bank’s World Integrated Trade Solution Data, described below, and a list of the CBAM-related products at HS 6-digit level is provided in the Annex 1 of the EU CBAM legislation in the link below. Located at: TC2_CBAM_exposure_index.xlsx (Figure 7), this file illustrates the carbon emissions of each CBAM product in Scope 1 and 2. It serves to calculate potential embodied carbon payment at USD 100 per CO2 ton. The authors computed different calculations to arrive at the CBAM exposure index. More details on the construction can be found in the README file.

World Integrated Trade Solution Data

Source: World Bank’s World Integrated Trade Solution. Located at: TC2_CBAM_exposure_index.xlsx (Figure 7), Exports at HS 6-digit level, TC2_Renewable.xlsx contains countries' exports to China, EU27, the US, and the Rest of the World in 2022. (Figure 8), TC2_EV.xlsx contains countries' EV exports to China, EU27, the US, and the Rest of the World in 2022 (Figure 9), TC2_CM.xlsx contains countries’ critical mineral exports to China, EU27, the US, and the Rest of the World in 2022. (Figure 10), and TC2_EUDR.xlsx illustrates countries’ exports of EUDR products to the EU and the World in 2022 (Figure 12). The data in these files is licensed and does not permit republication. However, each Excel file includes a list of codes used to create these figures. Users can access the data by visiting the following link, creating an account, and downloading the exports for the codes listed in the Excel files. The Excel files contain only the exact figures shown in the paper, plus the mentioned codes.

Eora Global Supply Chain Database

Source: Baldwin, Freeman, and Theodorakopoulos, 2023 and Eora Global Supply Chain Database. This is a subset of the GVC exposure indicator that was constructed by using licensed EORA data and methodology (Baldwin, Freeman, and Theodorakopoulos, 2023). The entire dataset and constructed indicator are confidential. Located at: GVC Exposure Indicator.dta and TC2_GVC Exposure Indicator_textile.xlsx (Figure 13).

Source: Global Trade Analysis Project is the GTAP Data Base. Chepeliev and Corong (2022) and Chepeliev et al. (2022). Comprises 9 sheets: Exports 2019, CO2 all scopes, N2O all scopes, Methane all scopes, Emissions CO2, Emissions N2O, Emissions Methane, Emissions All and chart. Located at: TC2_Emission Scenario.xlsx shows emission data by country (Figure 15) and, TC2_GTAP Sectors Exports and Emissions.xlsx sheet contains data about CO2 Emissions, N2O Emissions, and Methane Emissions (Figure 16).
