    Abstract

Climate change—and efforts to fight it—will dramatically reshape global trade and investment flows. Developing countries, home to most of the world’s poor, face the twin challenge of mitigating and adapting to climate change while fulfilling their obligation to deliver a brighter future to their citizens in the form of more and better jobs, higher incomes, and improved health care and education. These two goals are compatible and can be mutually reinforcing. And trade can be part of the solution. With almost 30 percent of global GHG emissions arising from the production, associated deforestation and transport of exported and imported goods and services, decarbonizing trade while adapting to the changing climate is a global priority.

The package does not include code, and the outputs are generated in Excel.

    Data

    Datasets
Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) simulations, low, medium and high income countries
    Name
Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) simulations, low, medium and high income countries
    Note
Source: GTAP center. The simulations have been performed by the GTAP center. The spreadsheets with the results and charts are included in the package. Access to the code for CGE requires a subscription/payment. All these results are also reported in the background paper by Chepeliev et. al (2024) available at the following link. Located at: TC2_CGE results.xlsx, produced Figure E1, Figure 3 (sheet: exp_LMY (chart)), Figure 2 (sheet: xp_hic (chart)), Figure 4 (GVC_electronics (chart))

    CBAM-related products
    Name
    CBAM-related products
    Note
Source: Produced by the authors with information from Chepeliev and Corong (2022) and Chepeliev et al. (2022). Exports of CBAM-affected products are from the World Bank’s World Integrated Trade Solution Data, described below, and a list of the CBAM-related products at HS 6-digit level is provided in the Annex 1 of the EU CBAM legislation in the link below. Located at: TC2_CBAM_exposure_index.xlsx (Figure 7), this file illustrates the carbon emissions of each CBAM product in Scope 1 and 2. It serves to calculate potential embodied carbon payment at USD 100 per CO2 ton. The authors computed different calculations to arrive at the CBAM exposure index. More details on the construction can be found in the README file.
